Saturday’s match-up between Michigan and Oklahoma has plenty of storylines to discuss leading up to kickoff, one storyline in particular extends beyond Sherrone Moore’s homecoming to his alma mater.

A Michigan native is hoping to get some revenge on the Wolverines.

Oklahoma wide receiver Deion Burks is no stranger to the Wolverine program. A native of the state who went to Belleville High School, Burks ended up playing for Purdue for three seasons before transferring to the Sooners last season.

He’s excited to face off against the Wolverines again and would like to end his losing streak to his hometown team.

“I can’t wait till they come, man,” Burks told reporters this week. “I’m from Michigan, so it’s definitely personal for me. Played them twice, played them once under Brohm, and I played them again under Coach Ryan Walters.

“Definitely a nice team, they’re always gonna be good on defense, offense as well. But I’m excited to play.”

Just don’t ask Burks if he grew up a U-M fan.

“I’m not gonna say that,” Burks said with a laugh.

The idea of the game having meaning to him has an extra layer to it, as he feels as if he was overlooked by the program during his recruitment process.

A three-star recruit coming out of high school, Burks wasn’t heavily recruited, with Eastern, Western and Central Michigan all extending offers to him.

As for U-M and Michigan State, both schools did not extend offers, and it appears neither program took much interest in him, either.

That lack of interest still stings, and Burks wants to make it known he hasn’t forgotten about it.

“No, Michigan did not recruit me, so I don’t like that,” Burks said. “It’s definitely personal.”
