Michigan Hockey: A week in review (Oct. 10-11)

The Michigan hockey season is in full swing, and the program is off to an undefeated start after a weekend sweep of the No. 7 team in the country, Providence, on Friday and Saturday.

To get caught up, the Wolverines opened their season last weekend in Ann Arbor and cruised to an easy sweep over Mercyhurst, winning 11-1 on Friday and 7-0 on Saturday.

Let’s take a look at how the Wolverines fared this weekend:

October 10

Highlights:

Who: No. 7 Providence

Where: Providence, R.I.

Result: Michigan wins 5-1

Goals: Michael Hage (2), T,J. Hughes, Garrett Schifsky, Drew Schock

Goalie: Jack Ivankovich

Of Note: Freshman goalie Jack Ivankovich earned his third-straight start for the program on Friday after securing two wins and the first shutout of his career last weekend. Ivankovich is now 3-0 on the year as the young freshman netminder has had a strong start to the season.

October 11

Highlights:

Who: No. 7 Providence

Where: Providence, R.I.

Result: Michigan wins 3-1

Goals: Josh Eernisse (2), Malcolm Spence

Goalie: Jack Ivankovich

Of Note: Freshman goalie Jack Ivankovich shines once again with another start for the Wolverines and another win for the program. He has allowed only four goals in four games after shutting down a Top-10 program for the second-straight game.

U-M returns to Yost Area next weekend as the Wolverines take on Robert Morris in a weekend series on Oct. 16 and Oct. 17. Puck drop for both games is slated for 7:00 p.m. EST.
