Michigan Hockey: A week in review (Oct. 20-26)

Michigan didn’t have to look far to welcome one of the best programs in the country at the moment, as the Wolverines had a two-game series against in-state foe Western Michigan, which came into the week ranked as the No. 2 team in the country.
The Wolverines suffered it’s first loss of the year in Friday’s game and split the weekend series with the Broncos.

October 23
Highlights:
Who: Western Michigan
Where: Ann Arbor, MI
Result: Michigan wins 4-0
Goals: Perron, Jayden (1); Hage, Michael (1); Valentini, Adam (1); Schifsky, Garrett (1);
Goalie: Jack Ivankovic
Of Note: Freshman goalie Jack Ivankovic continued his red-hot start to the year with another shutout and is the first freshman netminder to start 7-0 since Paul Fricker did it during the 1979-1980 season. In all, Ivankovic stopped 32 shots in the winning effort.
October 24
Highlights:
Who: Western Michigan
Where: Kalamazoo, MI
Result: Michigan loses 5-2
Goals: Rheaume-Mullen, Dakoda (1); Horcoff, Will (1)
Goalie: Jack Ivankovic
Of Note: The Wolverines and Ivanvokic suffer their first blemish of the year as the Wolverines saw a 2-1 deficit heading into the third period balloon to a 4-1 hole with five minutes left in the game as the Broncos dominated the second and third periods.

Big Ten play opens up for the Wolverines travel to South Bend to play a two-game series against Notre Dame, with both games airing on Peacock. Puck drop for the Friday, Oct. 31, contest is set for 7:00 p.m., whereas the Saturday contest is set to start at 6:00 p.m. EST.
