Michigan QB Bryce Underwood earns Big Ten Freshman of the Week honors after Central Michigan performance

It’s one of what the Michigan football program hopes to be of many conference honors for star quarterback Bryce Underwood, who earned Big Ten Freshman of the Week honors by the conference on Monday after his performance during the Wolverines’ 63-3 victory over Central Michigan on Saturday.

After struggling against Oklahoma the week prior, Underwood bounced back in a significant way during the third start of his career, finishing the game with 235 yards through the air with one touchdown, and also showcased his rushing ability, adding 114 yards rushing and two touchdowns.

Underwood, and perhaps with some prompting from the coaching staff, saw the opportunities he left on the field last week if he used his legs more.

This week, the opportunities called for Underwood to make plays, and that’s what he did.

“Honestly, just like I said, whatever my team needed, I was able to show that on the field,” Underwood said after the game.

The Wolverines are hoping to stack wins as Big Ten play opens with the Wolverines heading on the road to take on Nebraska.
