Sherrone Moore optimistic but non-committal on Justice Haynes, Trey Pierce's status for Washington

With the Michigan football program looking to bounce back on Saturday after its loss to USC last weekend, it will need all hands on deck with Washington traveling to Ann Arbor, and it’s still unknown whether the team will have a full roster to work with.

Both running back Justice Haynes and defensive lineman Trey Pierce left the game against the Trojans with injuries, and neither returned.
Haynes left the game in the first half after taking a hit to the midsection. Although he appeared on the sideline in uniform with a helmet in hand, the staff elected not to have him return to the game, and his status moving forward was left relatively unclear.
Appearing on the Inside Michigan Football radio show on Monday, U-M head coach Sherrone Moore was asked about his star running back and whether he will be available for Saturday’s game.
While appearing optimistic, he didn’t come out and say whether Haynes would play or not.
“You know, right now, I think he’s questionable,” Moore said. “There’s a chance he’ll play, feel good, but, you know, we’ll see how he progresses through the week.”
The same goes for Pierce, who left the game needing to be helped off the field with a visible limp.
Like Haynes, Moore appeared to be optimistic that he would be available, perhaps even more so than Haynes.
As the program is just reconvening for practices, Moore is taking a wait-and-see approach as the week develops.
“I think so,” Moore said about whether Pierce will be available. “We’ll get a better prognosis today and see where he’s at. He’s played so, so well, but we’ll see where he’s at today.”
