4-Star 2026 WR Travis Johnson Commits to Michigan

On Friday, 4-star wide receiver Travis Johnson announced his commitment to Michigan. Johnson chose the Wolverines over South Carolina, North Carolina, Penn State, and Virginia Tech.

According to On3’s Industry Rankings, Johnson is a 4-star prospect ranked 161st overall, 23rd among wide receivers, and 5th among recruits from the state of Virginia. He becomes the third wide receiver in Michigan’s 2026 class, joining Zion Robinson, who ranks as the nation’s No. 22 wideout, and underrated slot receiver Jaylen Pile.
Michigan faced strong competition in Johnson’s recruitment. The 6-foot-3, 180-pound pass catcher took official visits to Indiana (May 2), South Carolina (May 30), Penn State (June 6), and Virginia Tech (June 20). However, it was his official visit to Ann Arbor on June 13 that proved to be the turning point. Wide receivers coach Ron Bellamy has had Johnson high on his board since offering him in January 2024, and played a key role in sealing the deal.
Johnson’s junior season at Oscar Smith High School in Virginia showed exactly why Michigan made him a priority. He recorded 1,044 receiving yards and 15 touchdowns, consistently showing polish in his route running and an advanced understanding of defensive coverages. His physical traits, combined with a refined skill set, make him one of the more college-ready wide receivers in Michigan’s recent classes.
Unlike Robinson, who is known for his elite athletic ceiling, Johnson brings a level of technical polish that could help him contribute as early as his freshman year. With the Wolverines returning limited production at wide receiver and last season’s top producer, Tyler Morris, now in the transfer portal after putting up just 248 receiving yards, Johnson may find an opportunity to carve out a role early in his college career.
Johnson’s commitment is another significant win for Michigan in Virginia, a region that has become increasingly important on the recruiting trail. His addition not only strengthens Michigan’s 2026 class on paper but also adds depth and balance to a receiver room in transition.
