Tigers in the NFL: Harrison Mevis kicks first field goals on Sunday Night Football
When Harrison Mevis got waived by the New York Jets, his confidence only grew.
The former Missouri kicker signed with the Los Angeles Rams earlier this month, and through his first two games, Mevis made every extra-point attempt sent his way. On Sunday against Tampa Bay, Mevis opened play with his first NFL kickoff.
Right before halftime during a 34-7 win, the rookie attempted his first NFL field goal.
Lining up from the right-hash mark, Mevis found his footing and split the uprights from 40 yards out to give the Rams’ a 31-7 lead in the second quarter. He later drilled a new career long from 52 yards out in the fourth quarter. Mevis finished the night with 10 points, going a perfect 4-for-4 on extra-point attempts.
“I knew that I had proven and shown to myself that I’m definitely capable of playing in this league and that I’m going to be here for a long time,” Mevis told MizzouToday earlier this month. “I’m here to stay, and I’m good enough to help teams win games. That’s really my mindset.”
How other Tigers performed in Week 12
As his rookie season rolled on, Luther Burden III continued to be productive in the Chicago offense. The wide receiver reeled in three of his five targets for 46 yards and a long of 19. The former five-star also took an end around for 15 yards in a 31-28 victory over Pittsburgh.
Against a bottom-ranked offense in Las Vegas, Cleveland’s Isaiah McGuire loaded up the box score in a 24-10 victory. The defensive end notched a career-high seven tackles — four by himself and two for loss — while also logging one sack and two quarterback hits.
While Kansas City got back on track with a 23-20 comeback victory over Indianpolis, Nick Bolton tied for the most tackles on the Chiefs, recording eight — two solo — and one quarterback hit. The linebacker also collided with a teammate on an interception attempt for the second time this season, the first came against Jacksonville in October, but it didn’t affect the outcome Sunday.
