The New York Yankees selected Missouri utility player Jackson Lovich with the 494th overall pick in the 16th round in the MLB Amateur Draft on Monday.

Lovich became the first Tiger position player drafted since Luke Mann in 2023.

The 6-foot-4, 192-pound junior came to Mizzou in 2023 and played in 19 games as a true freshman.

Then Lovich became a key piece of the team in 2024.

He hit .287/.377/540 in 46 games, hitting 10 home runs and bringing in 35 RBI. He split time at shortstop, first base and center field through the season.

Lovich cemented himself as the key player at Mizzou in 2025 when he hit .357/.430/.622 in 51 games and moved full-time to shortstop when the Tigers were desperate for defensive help.

He hit 12 home runs and brought in 51 RBI.

Lovich has a year of eligibility remaining and could decline to sign with the Yankees. If he does, he would return to the Tigers for his senior season and re-enter the draft next year.

The deadline to sign is 4 p.m. July 28.

Lovich joins Ryan Magdic, Carter Rustad and Bryce Mayer, all pitchers who were selected in last year’s draft, as the Tigers chosen since Missouri coach Kerrick Jackson took over the program.
