Mizzou flips in-state offensive lineman Brysen Wessell from Iowa State

Missouri stayed the course and kept Brysen Wessell home.
On Saturday, the Tigers landed the verbal commitment of Wessell, a Class of 2026 Jackson (Mo.) offensive lineman previously committed to Iowa State. Wessell camped at Missouri in June, but the staff didn’t offer him until this past month before a trip to campus for the South Carolina contest.
“It definitely means a lot,” he said after his offer from the Tigers. “It’s crazy to think that the offer came, and it’s one that I’ve thought about growing up. So it’s crazy that I actually have that now. It’s cool to see all my work paying off now in that way.”
Wessell grew up rooting for Missouri and looked up to current center Connor Tollison, a fellow Jackson product. The two caught up during Elite Camp in the summer before meeting up again in September during the Mayor’s Cup.
“He’s been a mentor to me,” Wessell said in July. “It was always really my dream playing there at Mizzou.”
Wessell marked the fourth interior offensive line commit and 15th overall pledge for the Tigers. He joined three-stars Brandon Anderson, Khalief Canty Jr. and Braylon Ellison. Although previously pledged to Iowa State as a defensive lineman, Wessell has always been recruited as a center by Missouri.
“They’re wanting me to play center and take over Connor’s spot, since we have similar builds,” said Wessell, a 6-foot-5, 275-pound offensive tackle. “Just keep the Jackson kids rolling through.”
Assistant offensive line coach Jack Abercrombie spearheaded Wessell’s recruitment. The staffer pushed for the interior line prospect to visit sooner than previously expected and received the commitment from prospect before the remainder of the staff.
“It was nice to actually see him again in person and not to be through the phone,” Wessell said after his September visit. “It was just a good time, and it was a really good atmosphere.”
Wessell will return to Missouri on Nov. 8 for his official visit the weekend of the Texas A&M game.
