Mizzou flips Utah safety pledge Carter Stewart after official visit

Missouri pulled out a surprising flip Monday.
The Tigers received the verbal commitment of Carter Stewart, who previously pledge to Utah. Stewart became a late addition to the visitors list for Missouri this past weekend, as the Class of 2026 safety never shared any previous connection to the Tigers.
Safeties coach Jacob Yoro paired Stewart with three-star Tony Forney Jr. — who committed to the Tigers in early July. But what looked to be a two-safety class might turn into more, with Missouri also hosting Cincinnati commit Brody Jones and Louisville commit Jayden McGregory this past weekend.
“Something to prove,” Stewart told national recruiting and transfer portal reporter Hayes Fawcett. “Go Tigers!!”
Stewart committed to Utah in June. The three-star ranked No. 219 at safety and No. 306 in the state of Texas in the most recent update for the 2026 class. The Pearland (Texas) Shadow Creek defensive back marked the 17th commitment for Missouri and the fifth this month.
Joining recent pledges JJ Bush, TJ Hodges, Brysen Wessell and Johnnie Jones Jr., Stewart kept a hot month of October rolling for the Tigers. However, Missouri doesn’t plan to end with Stewart. The program has its eyes on more defensive targets, including recent official visitor and former Oklahoma State commit Tajh Overton.
