Mizzou LT Cayden Green downgraded to out for matchup with South Carolina

Missouri starting left tackle and preseason All-American (at left guard), Cayden Green has been downgraded to ‘Out’ on Friday’s SEC availability report.
Green did not appear on Wednesday night’s report, then was added as “Probable” on Thursday before Friday’s change to out.
Before moving Green to left tackle in fall camp, the Tigers had an active competition between Jayven Richardson and Johnny Williams. Richardson has been listed as the backup left tackle on the depth chart throughout the first three games and will likely step in as Saturday’s starter.
As of now, there is no official word from the Tigers.
Missouri will go into Saturday’s matchup with South Carolina (set to kickoff at 6 p.m. on ESPN) without Green, who has grown into his new position at left tackle through the season. He struggled in Week 1, but produced one of the best pass blocking performances by a tackle in Week 2, according to PFF.
He followed that up in Week 3 with a performance that graded higher than any tackle in the country who played at least 25 snaps.
Next man up
For Richardson, Saturday would be his first career start. Williams started 2-of-18 games he appeared in at West Virginia before transferring to Missouri.
Richardson is the expected starter.
Richardson joined the Tigers going into 2024 after beginning his career at Hutchinson Community College. He was involved in the competition to start at left tackle in 2024 fall camp. But he eventually lost the job to Marcus Bryant. He appeared in six games in 2024 and has played against Central Arkansas and Louisiana this season. He has played 36 snaps, all at left tackle.
Williams made appearances this season against Central Arkansas and Louisiana. In the opener, he played 12 snaps at right tackle, then he added 24 more in Week 3.
This story will be updated as more information comes.
Others listed
Green was one of four Tigers listed as out on Friday’s report. He was alongside Sam Horn, Blake Craig and Logan Reichert.
The injuries to Horn and Craig are season long. Reichert has yet to appear this year and is expected to be out for at least a few more weeks.
South Carolina will be without tight end Michael Smith and defensive back Judge Collier.
Smith has played in all three games for the Gamecocks this season, catching two passes for 20 yards. Collier has played nine total snaps.
Defensive back DQ Smith and receiver Mazeo Bennett are listed as probable for a second straight day.
South Carolina quarterback LaNorris Sellers was initially questionable on Wednesday’s report. Then was upgraded to probable on Thursday and removed from the report Friday.
