Five days after receiving the commitment of Khalief Canty Jr., Missouri turned its eyes to the next rising Michigan lineman.

Tigers assistant offensive line coach Jack Abercrombie offered Class of 2027 four-star Dewey Young in late June. Young, an offensive tackle at Kalamazoo (Mich.) Central, is a legacy of Michigan State, the school that finished second for Canty this summer.

“I think what stood out was he really showed me how I could maybe fit in their scheme with the wide zone,” Young said of Abercrombie. “Because I have good feet. I’m able to reach people well.”

Missouri caught Young’s eye this past season by developing Armand Membou into a first-round NFL Draft selection. Young has also crossed paths with Canty, one of three Class of 2026 offensive lineman committed to the Tigers, at camps in their home state.

“I definitely think that offensive linemen that go there will be developed,” Young said. “The coaches seem very knowledgeable.”

Young has already planned fall visits to Kansas for Aug. 23 and Penn State for Aug. 30.

“I would definitely take a visit out to Mizzou,” he said. “I’m just trying to coordinate all that since it’s a little bit farther of a drive.”

Yet there’s more on his mind than visits ahead of his junior year. Young received all-state honors in baseball, a sport he’s played since he was 6-years-old, as he’s started to believe there might be opportunities to play two sports beyond high school.

Like Missouri, Young has also prioritized building off his previous season by reaching new milestones. He’s set a goal of winning his first state playoff game during his junior year.
