Mizzou running back Marquise Davis intends to enter transfer portal
Mizzou lost its second running back from the Class of 2025, Marquise Davis. Davis told On3 he plans to enter the transfer portal when it opens on Jan. 2.
Davis was a four-star recruit ranked as the No. 5 running back in the Class of 2025 and joined a stacked Mizzou running back room. He was originally committed to Kentucky, but flipped to Mizzou on Dec. 1, 2024.
He played in the three lower-level non-conference games early in the season. In those games, he carried the ball 34 times for 200 yards and two touchdowns.
He produced 113 yards and a touchdown on 20 carries against Louisiana for his best performance.
Davis retained his redshirt and will have four years of eligibility remaining.
Mizzou’s other freshman running back from the Class of 2025, Brendon Haygood, announced his intention to enter the transfer portal quickly after the end of the regular season.
Going forward
With the pair of young backs gone, the Tigers’ running back room now sits as:
- Redshirt senior Tavorus Jones
- Redshirt junior Jamal Roberts
- Junior Ahmad Hardy
- Three-star true freshman Maxwell Warner.
Davis was part of a Mizzou running back room that produced 2,809 total rushing yards for an average of 234.1 per game. Hardy had 1,560 of those yards and 16 touchdowns. He has two years of eligibility remaining. While Roberts, who also has two years left, had 724 yards and five touchdown. Meaning Davis would have had limited opportunities to get on the field on offense next year.
The Tigers will now likely need to look in the transfer portal for at least one body to add to the running back room for depth. The Tigers had six scholarship running backs on roster this season including senior Anthony Favrow who was a walk-on, but earned a scholarship during the summer.
