Tigers in the NFL: Brady Cook makes debut for New York Jets
The New York Jets’ quarterback struggles continued, even with Brady Cook taking the reins.
In his second game as an active player, Cook made his NFL debut Sunday against Miami Dolphins and former Tigers offensive lineman Larry Borom. The rookie quarterback took over for an injured Tyrod Taylor, a reoccurring tale in the ballad of the veteran signal caller. Cook entered for the third offensive series. After ending three straight drives in punts, the righty threw his first interception before halftime.
Cook threw another at the end of the game in a 34-10 loss, finishing 14-for-30 passing with 163 yards. He also got sacked six times and fumbled twice, recovering one of those. Former Missouri lineman Armand Membou, the seventh-overall pick in the 2025 Draft, lined up as his right tackle.
While in the conversation for one of the more prominent programs for backup quarterbacks, Missouri also had representation from Drew Lock. The Seattle Seahawks’ backup took over in the final drive of a 37-9 win over the Atlanta Falcons. Lock recovered his own fumble.
How other Tigers performed in Week 14
After entering the weekend as the top seed in the NFC, the Chicago Bears suffered a 28-21 loss to the rival Green Bay Packers. Wide receiver Luther Burden III led Chicago in receiving, reeling in four of his six targets for 67 yards. The rookie also logged one carry for three yards. Former Missouri linebacker Ty’Ron Hopper recorded three assisted tackles for the Packers.
As the Kansas City Chiefs continue to slide, Nick Bolton led his team in tackles with 12 total, six by himself and two for loss. The linebacker also logged one quarterback hit in a 20-10 loss to the Houston Texans.
On the top team in the NFC, Los Angeles Rams kicker Harrison Mevis played against a former teammate in Arizona Cardinals defensive lineman Darius Robinson. Mevis remained perfect with six extra points and a 26-yard field goal. Robinson logged three assisted tackles in a 45-17 loss.
Second-year linebacker Jaylon Carlies was activated off injured reserved Sunday for the Indianapolis Colts. The former Missouri safety suffered an ankle injury in August. The 2024 fifth-rounder recorded two snaps.
Additionally, an AFC South foe, the Jacksonville Jaguars waived former Missouri running back Cody Schrader on Saturday. The Jaguars signed Schrader to the active roster Sept. 9, but the second-year running back never played in a game for Jacksonville.
After starting at center the previous week, Trystan Colon moved to left guard (36 snaps) for the Detroit Lions in a 44-30 win over the Dallas Cowboys.
