Sam Horn signs with Los Angeles Dodgers

After being drafted with the last pick of the 17th round of the MLB Draft, Missouri pitcher/quarterback Sam Horn has signed with the Los Angeles Dodgers.
Horn pitched limited innings for the Tigers because of injuries throughout his time in Columbia. And with the kickoff of football fall camp, he is an active member of the Missouri quarterback battle.
But the money and the possibility to develop with one of the best pitching programs in baseball was too much to turn down for the redshirt junior.
Horn spent the past year recovering from Tommy John surgery after suffering a torn UCL in the 2024 baseball season. He said the injury forced him to adjust his pitching style.
“I was really a sinker ball pitcher, sinker, slider, change up,” Horn said. “But I didn’t really throw the four seam. But when I was coming back, I threw a lot of four seams. And it kind of worked out more than anything.”
He pitched for Missouri in the 2025 season, returning to the mound to appear in five games and pitch 10.2 innings. He allowed five runs, but all five came in out outing against Alabama. Otherwise, he threw 9.2 scoreless frames, while striking out 13.
Horn went to the MLB Draft combine for one day this summer, which was highlighted by Missouri football coach Eliah Drinkwitz changing his usual “Chase two dreams” motto to “Chase three dreams.”
“It was cool,” Horn said of going to the combine. “It’s a dream come true to be able to meet these teams that you grew up watching. It’s kind of surreal. You’re like, ‘I’m really talking to the GM,’ of whoever it may be. And you’re just glad to be here more than anything.”
Horn is still planning to play football for the Tigers this season he said Sunday.
“(I’m) just ready for football season, more than anything,” Horn said at Missouri’s fall camp kickoff media day Sunday.
Horn and incoming transfer Beau Pribula will battle for the title of Missouri starting quarterback as the first practice of fall camp begins Monday.
Horn has said he plans to stay with the Tiger football team through the season.
He will likely shut down as a pitcher until after football has completed, then ramp up beginning next season as he becomes a true Dodgers prospect.
