On the latest episode of The MizzouToday Show, Kyle McAreavy and Kenny Van Doren preview Missouri’s Week 7 matchup with Alabama, discussing weaknesses, Ty Simpson’s resurgence, injury updates and predictions for the 11 a.m. Saturday game. The guys also discuss the meaning and history behind the ranked contest and what a win would mean to the program.

The vibe talking to Alabama media

“The sense from the Alabama people tends to be pretty respectful,” McAreavy said. “I think a lot of Alabama people are looking at this as an actual game. Which, there are some SEC teams that aren’t necessarily as respectful. But it seems like Alabama media, especially, is taking this one pretty seriously and kind of looking at it as, Mizzou is coming in with a real shot. Which hasn’t always been the case since Mizzou joined the SEC when lining up against Alabama.”

Series history

“It’s weird to think this is only the ninth meeting between these two teams, in the sense that they’ve been in the SEC for 10-plus years now, that being Missouri,” Van Doren said. “The last time Missouri beat Alabama was 1975, Monday, Sept. 8.”

What this game means for Mizzou

“Games like this don’t come around a ton,” McAreavy said. “… It feels similar to me to the LSU game back in 2023. It’s about, almost exactly the same week of the regular season. So, it’s been about two years since the Tigers have lost at home. It’s just kind of that midseason, you’ve looked good so far, but can you actually compete with the big boys.”

“It’s still Alabama, to be an actual CFP contender, to be an actual SEC contender, you have to be able to beat the best. And Alabama is still up there among the best,” McAreavy said.
