The Week that Was in Mizzou Athletics: July 14-20

The summer started to heat up for Mizzou athletics the past week with SEC Media Days and a major basketball commitment for the Tigers.
Here’s a recap of what we didn’t cover with links to what we did.
Football
Kenny kicked off the week with NFL legacy Tramon Williams Jr. getting ready for his high school career. He then wrote about 2027 RB Correll Buckhalter Jr.
I hit the penultimate story in my series looking at the best wins of the Eliah Drinkwitz era with No. 2.
Kenny added a story about Mizzou keeping tabs on the state of Michigan with an offer to 2027 OT Dewey Young.
I wrote a Said and Unsaid from Drinkwitz’s appearance at media days and we had a whole lot of national stories diving into what he talked about.
Then I continued my look through historic Border War wins with a look at 1961.
I neared the end of my look through the post-spring depth chart with the cornerbacks.
Finally, I continued my look through the most important players for the coming season. Here are the stories from the past week:
Men’s Basketball
Kenny wrote about Mizzou commit Scottie Adkinson’s updated ranking in the updated Rivals150. He then started to dive deep into Jason Crowe Jr. ahead of his commitment with a story about his national rise.
After his commitment, I wrote about the recruiting context around Crowe and what getting him means for the Tigers, while Kenny wrote a scouting report about what Mizzou is getting.
I put together a recap of the NBA Summer League to keep people up to date with Tamar Bates, Caleb Grill and Kobe Brown.
Finally, I reached No. 2 on my rankings of the best wins of the Dennis Gates era in Columbia.
Baseball
The MLB Draft saw two Tigers taken in the late rounds.
Here is my story on Jackson Lovich being drafted by the New York Yankees. He later signed and will move on from Mizzou.
Here is my story on Sam Horn being drafted by the Los Angeles Lakers. He is yet to sign and in my opinion, is unlikely to.
Swim & Dive
Mizzou alum Jack Dahlgren won gold in the Men’s 200-meter butterfly at the FISU World University Games in Berlin.
Dahlgren swam a time of 1:55.59.
Volleyball
Two-time SEC Libero of the Year Maya Sands was invited to play for the Women’s U23 National Team by USA Volleyball.
Sands joined 17 athletes training for the NORCECA U23 Pan America Cup which will be Friday through Aug. 2 in Leon, Mexico.
Wrestling
Missouri incoming freshman David Gleason took on the 2025 U.S. Mariner Corps Junior Nationals and won the 157-pound weight class.
