The week that was in Mizzou sports: Nov. 3-9

With football taking so much attention, it’s easy to miss some of the other stuff going on in Mizzou sports. So here’s a review of what we didn’t cover the past week.
With fall sports winding down, there was a little less going on that we weren’t able to cover.
Volleyball
The Tigers took on No. 2 Kentucky looking to continue climbing the SEC standings with a late-season surge. But Kentucky claimed a 25-19, 18-25, 25-23, 25-20 win at the Hearnes Center on Thursday.
The second set was Kentucky’s first dropped set since Oct. 24, but the Tigers still fell to 7-6 in SEC play.
Senior Caylen Alexander led Mizzou with 22 kills, while senior Janet deMarrais and redshirt senior Tyrah Ariail celebrated senior night with 13 and 10 kills, respectively.
Senior Maya Sands recorded 18 digs, while freshman Zoey Matias-Lopez had eight. Sands added three aces, four assists and a kill.
Marina Crownover neared a double-double with 42 assists and nine digs, while senior Regan Haith had two blocks and seven kills.
Mizzou (16-9, 7-6) will finish the regular season with a road trip to Mississippi State for a 6 p.m. matchup Friday and a 2 p.m. matchup at Alabama on Sunday.
The Tigers are currently ninth in the SEC standings, but two wins could raise them as far as fourth depending on other results.
The SEC Tournament will begin Nov. 21 in Savannah, Ga.
