The week that was in Mizzou sports: Oct. 6-12

With football taking up a lot of the attention, it’s easy to miss everything else going on in Mizzou sports. Here’s a recap of what we didn’t cover last week.

Volleyball

The No. 25 Tigers opened the week with a 25-23, 22-25, 25-23, 28-26 loss to Florida in Gainesville, Fla. on Friday.

Caylen Alexander led the Tigers with 24 kills to go with 15 digs, her fourth double-double of the season.

Tyrah Ariail and Regan Haith each contributed three blocks to co-lead the team, while Maya Sands had 19 digs to lead the Tigers.

Marina Crownover had 14 digs and freshman Zoey Matias-Lopez added 11.

Crownover recorded her seventh double-double of the season with 40 assists.

The Tigers stayed on the road to take on Auburn on Sunday, winning 23-25, 32-30, 25-17, 26-24.

Sands had a game-high 23 digs, while Matias-Lopez added 22.

Haith, Alexander and Ariail all had five blocks to co-lead the team. Alexander added a team-high 19 kills, while freshman Maca Lobaglio had a career-high eight kills.

Janet deMarrais added 15 kills, while Ariail had 12.

The win makes the Tigers 10-7 overall and 2-4 in SEC play.

Mizzou will host Ole Miss at 7 p.m. Friday and LSU at 2 p.m. Sunday.

Soccer

The Tigers dropped their sixth consecutive match Friday in a 2-0 defeat to Vanderbilt on the road.

Vanderbilt scored twice in the first 20 minutes, and Mizzou was unable to net its one shot on goal.

The Commodores outshot the Tigers 19-5 overall and 8-1 on goal.

Kate Phillips made six saves in net for the Tigers.

Hailey Chambliss had the Tigers’ lone attempt on net.

Missouri (4-9-1, 1-6 SEC) is nearing the end of the season with just three matches left.

The Tigers will stay on the road to face Texas A&M at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, then will return home to host No. 7 Arkansas at 2 p.m. Sunday.

The regular-season’s final game will come the following Sunday hosting Auburn.

Women’s Golf

The Tigers went to the Marilynn Smith Sunflower Invitational in Kansas on Monday and Tuesday and took second at 17-over.

Host Kansas won at 3-over.

Melanie Walker led the Tigers with a second-place finish. She shot 70-75-69–214 for 1-over.

Addie Dobson was the next Tiger finisher, tying for eighth at 7-over. She shot 70-76-74–220.

Fleur van Beek shot 8-over 72-75-74–221 for a tie for 13th, as did Ebba Liljeber at 74-69-79–221.

Alexandra Berglund shot 10-over 72-78-73–223 for a tie for 17th.

Jade Zamora shot 15-over 72-78-78–228 for a tie for 32nd, but competed independently.

The Tigers are off this week and will return to competition at the Rainbow Wahine Invitational in Hawaii next Monday-through-Wednesday.

Softball

The Tigers neared the end of the fall ball season with a game against SIUE on Friday. Stats were not recorded.

The Tigers will host a doubleheader Saturday when Washington (Mo.) and Kansas City come to Columbia. 

Then the fall season with conclude with a doubleheader against Jefferson College and Central Methodist (Mo.) the next Saturday.
