Trent Burns to miss time after "successful surgery"

Missouri redshirt freshman center Trent Burns had surgery Tuesday to correct a “stress reaction” in his foot, the team announced Thursday.
It is a similar injury to what held the 7-foot-5 freshman out for the entirety of his true freshman season.
The team said Burns will sit out for the next six weeks as the team prepares for its season opener at Howard on Nov. 3, which is eight weeks away.
After those six weeks of rest, there will be a “return-to-play protocol” to determine a more accurate timeline.
The team said the expectation is 8-12 total weeks of recovery.
“After a successful spring and early summer practice window, Trent had an injury to his foot flare up,” Missouri coach Dennis Gates said in the team’s release. “We all decided that surgery was the best option for his uninterrupted contributions this season.”
After playing in the Tigers’ exhibition matchup with Lincoln to open last season, the four-star recruit who was the No. 12 center in the class of 2024 sat throughout his true freshman season to heal the injury.
He began warming up with the team before games late in the season, but never appeared in a contest, allowing him to preserve his redshirt.
“His health is our top priority and we know this will only be a small disruption in a great basketball career,” Gates said. “We saw in the spring and summer how much of an impact he can have with our program and we look forward to his return to the court during our non-conference season.”
