Players to know
Offense
Daniel Beale, QB
With expected starter Walker Howard likely out for the season with an oblique injury, redshirt freshman Beale has taken over.
He came in to the loss against Rice and did not complete a pass on six attempts, but in his first start against McNeese, he completed 14-of-22 for 86 yards and one touchdown. He also rushed three times for 18 yards.
Beale came into the season with minimal experience, playing in two contests last season.
He was a three-star recruit in the class of 2024. He was the 109th-ranked quarterback in the class and the 59th-ranked player in Louisiana that season.
They might also play redshirt sophomore Lunch Winfield, who played in one game in 2023 before missing all of 2024 due to injury.
Bill Davis & Zylan Perry, RBs
The Ragin Cajuns go with a pair of running backs and both have had some amount of success in the first two games.
Redshirt sophomore Davis has been the lead back in both contests. Against Rice, he ran 11 times for 58 yards and had one catch for 7 yards. Then he posted 132 yards and two touchdowns on 19 attempts against McNeese State.
He entered the season as a second-team All-Sun Belt selection.
Redshirt junior Perry posted 46 yards on 11 attempts against Rice and 94 yards on 14 tries against McNeese State.
He was the team’s lead back in 2024 and has had a lot of success as a kick returner. He was the FBS leader in kick return yards (862) in 2023.
Defense
Redshirt senior Williams is tied for the team lead in tackles with 13, but added 2.0 tackles for loss, including a sack, against Rice.
He started his career at running back and spent his first three seasons there. Then last year he moved to linebacker in the spring and was a reserve option that appeared in all 14 games.
Jaden Dugger, LB
Senior Dugger is the other man in the tie for the lead in total tackles. He also has half a tackle for loss garnered against Rice. He did not put up a great statistical performance against McNeese State.
After starting his career at Georgetown, Dugger transferred to Louisiana going into last season and recorded 37 tackles with 4.0 tackles for loss. He started three of the 14 games he appeared in.
