Trey Butkowski won't say he expected to become Pitt football’s starting kicker by the end of training camp. What he did know was that he had belief in himself and knew he was capable of competing for the role. “Me and Coach [Pat Narduzzi] on my visit, we talked about how competitive I would be coming in and that set the stage for me, and I was ready to get it when I got here,” Butkowski said Thursday. Butkowski was battling with transfer James London and returning backup Sam Carpenter. It was his mindset that allowed him to contend for a starting job as a walk-on freshman.
