Former WPIAL Star Transferring from Wisconsin
With just one season of athletic eligibility remaining, a former WPIAL standout will be testing the free agent waters of the NCAA transfer portal.
Former Penn-Trafford standout running back Cade Yacamelli has announced his intentions of leaving Wisconsin and placing his name in the NCAA transfer portal.
“Thank you to Coach Fickell and the entire staff for helping me grow both as a player and as a man during my time at Wisconsin,” said Yacamelli on Twitter. “I will always be grateful for the memories and the brotherhood I’ve shared with my teammates. I plan to enter the transfer portal on January 2nd as a graduate transfer with one year of eligibility remaining.”
The bottom line is Yacamelli will be looking for an opportunity on the offensive side of the ball after not receiving it with the Badgers.
This past season, Yacamelli rushed the ball 38 times for 124 yards. In 2024, he got 33 carries for 274 yards and 2 touchdowns. After not receiving any offensive snaps in the final 5 games, there was a temptation to possibly transfer but he reportedly was told he’d have a bigger role in the 2025 offense, which didn’t occur.
Yacamelli appeared in 32 games over his Wisconsin career, receiving 107 carries for 571 yards and 2 touchdowns.
Yacamelli was 3-star recruit from Penn-Trafford High School and signed with Wisconsin in their Class of 2022. During his senior season with Penn-Trafford, Yacamelli collected 1,866 rushing yards, 351 receiving yards, 29 touchdowns, 40 tackles, 2 interceptions and a sack.
