Despite it being the start of both the high school and college season, it’s been surprisingly quit in terms of high school recruiting in the WPIAL.

By quiet, I’m referring to offers being extended along with players making gameday visits.

Over the weekend, there were a few things that happened that Pittsburgh Sports Now wants to let you know about.

*McKeesport 2027 4-star wide receiver Javien Robinson received his latest offer from the Penn State Nittany Lions. Robinson got the news from Penn State assistant head coach and WPIAL ace recruiter Terry Smith.

On3 Sports/Rivals rates Robinson as the No. 9 player in Pennsylvania for the Class of 2027. The 6’1″, 175-pound wideout also holds offers from Pitt, Rutgers, Syracuse, West Virginia, Wisconsin, UConn, Toledo, Temple, Sacramento State and Akron.

Considering their long history of landing McKeesport recruits and the Smith factor, I’d consider Penn State the favorite to land Robinson.

*Aside from current 2026 WPIAL commits Peters Township 4-star DE Reston Lehman, Steel Valley 3-star safety Da’Ron Barksdale and Pine-Richland offensive lineman John Curran, Pitt also hosted a local player that holds an offer from them. Hopewell 2028 quarterback James Armstrong made his first visit this season to Acrisure Stadium to check out Pitt.

*Pittsburgh Central Catholic 2027 offensive tackle James Halter received an offer on Sunday from the Arkansas Razorbacks. Over the summer, Halter (6’5″, 268) went on a tear in terms Power 4 interest. Along with Arkansas, Halter now holds Power 4 offers from Pitt, Penn State, Ohio State, Michigan State, Boston College, Rutgers, North Carolina, Duke, NC State, Kentucky, Indiana, Nebraska, West Virginia and Auburn.
