Jeff Capel, Pitt Players Break Down Season-Opening Win vs. YSU

PITTSBURGH — The Pitt men’s basketball team opened up the 2025-26 season at the Petersen Events Center with a 74-59 victory over Youngstown State.
Despite a tough start on the offensive side of things, the Panthers rallied behind the play of guard Brandin Cummings and forwards Cam Corhen and Papa Kante, all three of which were contributors from a season ago.
The Panthers fell behind early and did not find their footing until about 15 minutes into the game when they flipped a switch and took control of the game before halftime as they ultimately ran away with the 15-point victory.
Corhen led all scorers and rebounders in the contest as he posted a double-double with 23 points and 12 rebounds. Kante added 10 rebounds including five on the offensive glass. Cummings scored 18 points.
Panthers’ head coach Jeff Capel, alongside Corhen and Cummings spoke about the victory over the Penguins following the conclusion of the game on Monday evening.
