New Pitt Center Dishon Jackson Out Indefinitely

A huge potential blow to the Pitt men’s basketball season before it even officially gets underway.
This afternoon, the Pitt basketball announced that transfer center Dishon Jackson is out indefinitely “as he deals with a medical situation.”
The 6-11, 275-pound senior center was the first addition via the transfer portal this past offseason for Jeff Capel and was expected to play a huge role in 2025. For the last few seasons, Pitt has had a huge hole in the middle of their lineup and void of anyone that could be a physical and defensive presence. Pitt was hoping Jackson would be that man.
Last season at Iowa State, he averaged 8.5 points and 5.1 rebounds in 18.7 minutes per game. In 2023, Jackson averaged 11.4 points and 6.1 rebounds.
Out of over 1,800+ D1 transfers, Jackson was as No. 91 per On3 Sports.
“I’ve appreciated the concern and outreach recently,” Jackson said in a statement. “I’ve been dealing with a medical issue for years and because of my family and support system, I’ve always managed to get through it and come out on the other end of it better. While I’m currently away from my team and basketball family, I am focused on getting back to full health. I am grateful for the support from my coaches, teammates and everyone who’s been with me through this.”
The Pitt basketball program says they’ll have no further comment on this situation at this time.
Until this development, the early thought was that Jackson would play the 5 spot, with possibly moving senior Cam Corhen over to the 4.
With today’s news that might not be possible.
While Capel hasn’t addressed this situation yet and will obviously do so at ACC Media Day next week, Pitt could be counting more on sophomores Papa Kante and Amdy Ndiaye.
Pitt lost a lot from last season’s team with the transfers of Jaland Lowe along with the Diaz Graham brothers, plus the graduation of Zack Austin and Ish Leggett. The additions of Jackson and Barry Dunning, Jr. looked to be two valuable additions that would help with minutes and production.
