Olivia Babcock Named Finalist for National Player of the Year
Olivia Babcock is one step closer to solidifying herself as the best player in the nation for the second consecutive season.
On Monday, Babcock was named a finalist for the AVCA 2025 Division I Player of the Year Award.
Babcock, who took home the award in 2024, joins Wisconsin’s Mimi Colyer, Kentucky’s Eva Hudson and Nebraska’s Bergan Reilly as finalists. The announcement of the Player of the Year recipient takes place Friday, Dec. 19, in Kansas City at the AVCA Awards Banquet.
Babcock has put together another sensational season for a Pitt volleyball program that is on its way to a fifth-straight final four. Babcock has already added AVCA East Coast Region Player of the Year, ACC Player of the Year, Pittsburgh NCAA Regional Most Valuable Player and several other awards to her mantel this season.
The 6-4 junior is averaging 5.11 kills per set and 2.11 digs per set. She collected five ACC Offensive Player of the Week honors, including after a 45-kill performance against North Carolina.
Babcock helped the Panthers cruise through the Pittsburgh region of the NCAA women’s volleyball tournament with sweeps over UMBC, Michigan and Minnesota, along with an Elite Eight 3-1 win over Purdue.
During that four-game stretch, Babcock averaged 6.00 kills and 1.71 per set all while hitting .348 in the final two matches.
Babcock and the Panthers are set to take on Texas A&M Thursday in the NCAA National Semifinal in Kansas City, Mo. at 6:30 p.m.
