Two of the nation’s best Class of 2027 running back recruits battled it on Friday when four-star West Virginia commit Armand Hill and West Mifflin hosted five-star Penn State commit Kemon Spell and McKeesport.

According to Rivals, Spell is the nation’s top running back and eighth-ranked overall recruit in the Class of 2027. Rivals lists Hill as the 22nd-ranked running back recruit and 303rd-ranked overall recruit.

While Hill rushed for three touchdowns including a 30-yard burst, Spell rushed for two including the game-winning 50-yard touchdown. He also tallied a critical two-point conversion in the win.

“It started off slow,” Spell told Pittsburgh Sports Now about his performance. “The second half, we had a talk, and we came out better and you see what it got us in the outcome which was the win.”

Despite West Mifflin’s horrid 1-6 record, the Titans competed with McKeesport throughout the game, and even threw the early haymaker as they jumped out to 14-0 lead.

After cruising to a Week 0 victory behind a monstrous night from Spell, McKeesport stumbled as Spell missed a handful of games due to an injury. The Tigers are now 2-0 since his return to the field.

“It puts us over the hump,” Spell said about the win. “We are 4-3 and now we are going to get rolling in section play.”

While Spell is just a junior and is the nation’s top running back recruit in the Class of 2027 with plenty of options to chose from in regard to where he wants to go to college, the Pennsylvania native already decided to stay in-state and play out his collegiate career in Happy Valley.

Spell originally received his offer from Penn State in May of 2024 and committed just three months later.

“Before I even got the offer, they were showing mad love,” Spell said about Penn State. “After I got the offer it was just straight up love and that is what made me commit.”

With Spell located about 110 miles away from his future home, it is easy for him to get to campus for visits. His latest visit to Happy Valley was just last weekend for Penn State’s “White Out” game against Oregon.

Despite holding offers from other programs such as Florida State, Michigan, Notre Dame, Ohio State and Tennessee among many others, it appears as if Spell is locked in with his commitment to Penn State.

“They all love me and I love them, and I love Penn State.”
