Pitt football’s tight ends coach and special teams coordinator Jacob Bronowski is leaving the program for the SEC.

According to Chris Peak of PanthersLair.com, Bronowski is expected to be named the Auburn special teams coordinator at Auburn. Pittsburgh Sports Now has confirmed this report.

Bronowski joins new Auburn head coach Alex Golesh’s staff. The two worked together at Tennessee in 2021 when Bronowski was a special teams analyst and Golesh served as the Volunteers’ tight ends coach.

Pitt hired Bronowski ahead of the 2024 season. This past season, Pitt ranked 25th in the Power Four in terms of special teams efficiency, per ESPN’s College Football Power Index. In 2024, the Panthers were 38th overall in special teams efficiency.

He oversaw Pitt kicker Ben Sauls’ final collegiate season in which he led the team in scoring with 107 points, achieved by converting 21 out of 24 field goals (87.5%) and all 44 extra points attempts.

Bronowski also spearheaded the recruitment of current freshman Trey Butkowski. In 10 games played, Butkowski went 19-for-22 on field-goal attempts with a long of 47. He was also 41-of-42 of PATs.

This fall, Pitt returned two punts for touchdowns. The Panthers averaged 15.3 yards per punt return, which ranks 11th in the FBS. On kick returns, Pitt averaged 23.7 yards per returns, 20th-best in the nation.

In terms of tight ends, he helped develop Gavin Bartholomew in his final season before he was drafted in the sixth round by the Minnesota Vikings.

This season, Pitt’s tight end room saw a carousel of options between sixth-year returner Jake Overman, transfer Justin Holmes, sophomore Malachi Thomas and some work from walk-on Josh Altsman.

The tight end room totaled 48 receptions, 479 receiving yards and eight touchdowns through 12 games. The receiving touchdowns are the most for the tight ends since 2021.
