Pitt Backup Offensive Lineman No Longer on Roster
With the 2025 regular season well in the books for Pitt football and the transfer portal looming on Jan. 2, players are starting to announce their intentions to depart from the Panthers.
For the third time Tuesday, Pitt is expected to lose another player to the portal. Offensive lineman Jackson Brown is no longer on the team roster, according to a program spokesperson.
The 6-foot-6, 310-pound Brown is a redshirt junior and just completed his third season with the Panthers. Brown moved inside this season and was a reserve left guard behind Ryan Carretta after the season-ending injury to Keith Gouveia.
Brown — the son of the late Tony Brown, who was a standout offensive lineman at Pitt from 1982-85 — appeared in 10 games this season, primarily on the field goal unit. Brown checked into four games on offense this season for the Panthers against Duquesne, Central Michigan, NC State and Stanford. According to Pro Football Focus, he played 34 total snaps and did not allow a single pressure.
After starting his career at Cal in 2022, the Danville, Calif. native transferred to Pitt in 2023 and saw action in three games as a reserve tackles. Last season, Brown appeared in six games and made his lone collegiate start at right tackle against Clemson.
Wide receiver Zion Fowler-El and walk-on long snapper Nico Crawford announced earlier Tuesday that they will enter the transfer portal.
