SYRACUSE, N.Y. — Pitt football will be without a handful of starters for its ACC matchup at Syracuse, including its defensive leader.

Starting outside linebacker Rasheem Biles has been ruled out for Saturday evening’s contest, per the ACC game day availability report.

Starting defensive end Blaine Spires and starting left tackle Jeff Persi are also out after previously designated as questionable. Spires and Persi both missed last week’s game against Florida State.

Running back Desmond Reid, who returned for the FSU matchup after missing two games with an ankle injury, is listed as a game-time decision. Starting safety Cruce Brookins, starting tight end Justin Holmes, along with backups Joey Zelinsky (DE), Rashan Murray (CB) and Jackson Brown (OL) are also game-time decisions.

Biles is the most noteworthy player listed as out as he leads the Panthers defense with 53 tackles and 8.5 tackles for loss and two sacks. This puts more strain on an already thin linebacker unit after Jayden Bonsu and Jeremiah Marcelin were lost prior to the season to injuries.

Redshirt senior Nick Lapi is listed as the primary backup to Biles and is in line to start. Redshirt freshman Cameron Lindsey will also receive more snaps.
