The Pitt men’s basketball program received some big news tonight concerning a Top 100 recruit.

2026 4-star guard Jermal Jones from IMG Academy has announced his commitment to Jeff Capel and the Pitt Panthers. Jones becomes the first member of Pitt’s Class of 2026.

Jones (6’3″, 180-pounds) is a consensus 4-star recruit and the No. 92 overall player in the Class of 2026 per Rivals. Prior to selecting Pitt, Jones held offers from Florida State, California, Purdue, Cincinnati, Mississippi State, Clemson and Washington.

Jones was one of five standout 4-star recruits that recently made official visits to Pitt, with his visit coming from September 26-28.

He plays at IMG Academy, but he’s earned a lot of praise this summer from his work at the AAU level. He’s starred at the Jet Academy in the Nike Elite Youth Basketball League (EYBL), averaging 11.3 points and 3.8 rebounds per game.

The intrigue with Jones is apparent. He’s an athletic combo guard who’s able to play a two-way game with his shot creation and ability to defend multiple positions. He also possesses the blend of competitiveness and aggression that Capel has tried to bring in this offseason.

Jones is the first big piece under Pitt’s new ‘Go Big or Go Home’ recruiting mentality but he won’t be their last.

Look for Pitt to land another big name in the very near future. The goal from there will be to add one, possibly two more big high school names to complete their recruiting class for 2026.
