PITTSBURGH — Pitt’s linebacker corps took a hit Thursday morning when head coach Pat Narduzzi announced two season-ending injuries.

Narduzzi stated that Ohio State transfer linebacker Jayden Bonsu will miss the season with a lower leg injury.

Along with Bonsu, middle linebacker Jeremiah Marcelin will miss the season with an upper body injury.

Bonsu joined the Panthers after two years at Ohio State where he played safety. Upon his arrival to Pitt, Bonsu made the position change from safety to linebacker.

The redshirt sophomore was expected to be a two-deep piece for the Panthers this season and was primarily working as Kyle Louis’ backup at the Star linebacker spot. It took a bit for Bonsu to find consistency in the spring as he was in and out of practice dealing with an injury.

Across his two years at Ohio State, Bonsu did not see any game action, which included redshirting his freshman season.

The Hillsdale, N.J. native came out of St. Peters Prep as a four-star recruit and ranked as the No. 26 safety by Rivals. He put together a 70-tackle season, with 2.5 sacks, 4.5 tackles for loss and an interception.

Bonsu held offers from Ohio State, Alabama, Georgia, Michigan, Miami, Penn State, Oklahoma, Clemson, Tennessee, Texas, LSU, Oregon, Pitt and others.
