Pitt resuming series with former Big East rival
Pitt is resuming a series with an old foe starting in the 2025-26 season.
Pitt will start a home-and-home series with Villanova this season, insider Jon Rothstein reported on Wednesday. The Panthers will travel to the Finneran Pavilion this season and host the Wildcats at the Petersen Events Center in 2026-27.
An official announcement is expected soon.
Villanova is entering a new era after three largely unsuccessful seasons with former head coach Kyle Neptune at the helm. The Wildcats hired Maryland head coach Kevin Willard to take over the program, and after three consecutive missed NCAA Tournaments, the Wildcats will expect big things from their new staff.
Pitt has played Villanova 17 times since 1999, owning a 13-4 record. The most recent game was a 73-64 win at the Petersen Events Center in the 2012-13 season, and the Panthers are currently riding a six-game win streak.
However, the most recent loss is one that many will remember – a heartbreaking 78-76 loss in the Elite 8 in 2009. Villanova guard Scottie Reynolds’ layup with 0.5 seconds on the clock denied the Panthers a spot in the Final 4.
Pitt is slowly rounding out its non-conference schedule for this season, with West Virginia, Ohio State, Texas A&M (ACC/SEC Challenge), Binghamton and UCF on the slate.
