Pitt to Honor Life of Mason Alexander with Helmet Decal

Pitt football will not only honor the life of Mason Alexander during the home opener against Duquesne, but the program will do so throughout the 2025 season.
The Panthers will wear an initial ‘M’ decal with a halo above it on their helmets this season in remembrance of the true freshman cornerback, who was killed in a car accident in Fishers, Indiana in March.
Pittsburgh Sports Now received an exclusive look at the emblem Pitt will sport on its helmets this season.

On Saturday, Pitt will host Alexander’s family and his mother, who will be on the field during the pregame coin toss ceremony.
“We’re going to celebrate Mason Alexander’s life on Saturday,” head coach Pat Narduzzi said. “Our thoughts and prayers have been with him for a long time. It’s an opportunity to go out and play for his family. His mother will be at the coin toss. His family will be there. It’s an opportunity for our kids to just kind of show Mason and the family what we’ve done since he left us.”
Alexander was a passenger in a fatal crash back in his hometown of Fishers, Ind. while the Panthers were on spring break. He was 18.
Alexander was a four-star cornerback recruit out of Hamilton Southeastern High School and enrolled early to the University of Pittsburgh.
Pitt’s freshmen class continues to keep Alexander’s memory alive even months after the accident.
“We all together. When Mason died, we all came in close and brought us a brotherhood,” safety Josh Guerrier said last week.
Before Alexander’s death, he had an opportunity to talk with the Pittsburgh media. He shared that his goal was to make it to the NFL.
“Coach Archie and Coach Sanders are basically a copy and paste of each other,” Alexander said. “Both really good coaches who put a lot of good people in the league and that’s where I want to be when I get to that point in age. That’s where my end goal is going to be. I want to be in the NFL and I want to be able to represent Coach Sanders, Coach Archie as the best corner who could do it.”
