Pitt football’s nonconference matchup with Wisconsin that was set for the 2026 season has been canceled.

The Pitt and Wisconsin programs mutually agreed to cancel the game that was set for Sept. 19, it was announced Friday morning.

Next year’s cancellation does not impact the 2027 matchup between Pitt and Wisconsin that is slated to be played at Aviva Stadium in Dublin, Ireland on Aug. 28.

Pitt currently has one nonconference game confirmed by the program for next season with the Big 12’s UCF. It’s the start of a home-and-home series with the 2026 game being played at Acrisure Stadium on Sept. 12.

There have also been reports that Pitt will open the season on Sept. 5 with Miami (Ohio), but that has not been officially confirmed. That still leaves at least one more nonconference game available on the Pitt schedule.

Pitt’s 2026 schedule is still fluid as the Panthers and other ACC schools begin to implement a nine-game conference schedule.

According to the ACC, “Most teams will begin playing nine conference games plus one P4 game in 2026; however, multiple teams will play eight conference games and two P4 non-conference opponents to accommodate for currently scheduled non-conference games as part of the transition to the new model.”

By 2027, 16 ACC teams will play the nine conference games, plus one Power Four game model, while one team will play eight ACC games and two Power Four teams.
