Following their big win Saturday night over Georgia Tech, two Pitt Panthers have won weekly honors from the ACC Conference.

It comes as no surprise that freshman running back Ja’Kyrian Turner and junior linebacker Braylan Lovelace were recognized by the conference for their individual performances.

Turner (5’9″, 180-pounds) was named the ACC Rookie of the Week as he stepped in for the injured Desmond Reid and led Pitt’s offense and was the best offensive performer on the field. Turner rushed for 201 yards on 21 carries and 1 touchdown.

Turner’s 56-yard touchdown run with 2:52 left in the 4th quarter sealed Pitt’s win over previously first-place Georgia Tech.

The 21 carries were the second highest for Turner this season, one less than the 22 he received against Stanford. In that game, the Florida native rushed for 127 yards.

For the season, Turner has 114 carries for 615 yards and rushing touchdowns, while also catching 17 passes for 131 yards.

Lovelace was the second Panther recognized by the ACC Conference as he was named the linebacker of the week.

The junior from Leechburg High School finished the game with 4 tackles along with his game-changing 100-yard interception return for a touchdown.

For the season, Lovelace has a new career-high 65 tackles and has been a consistent performer all-season long for Randy Bates’ defensive unit.
