Pitt freshman quarterback Mason Heintschel has been one of the best stories in college football the last couple of weeks and has seemingly changed the direction of Pitt’s 2025 season.

Following his first two starts, Heintschel is averaging 322 passing yards, 3 touchdowns and 46 rushing yards per game. More importantly, he’s led Pitt to back-to-back wins, including Saturday’s over previously ranked No. 25 Florida State.

The play that everyone is talking about is the touchdown pass that Heintschel threw in the 3rd quarter to Desmond Reid to tie the game at 21. His athletic ability to scramble from pressure, keep his eyes up field and then throw back across his body to find Reid in the back of the endzone.

If you think this was just a ‘fluke’ or a play that is unlikely to happen again, you’d be wrong.

Take a look at the touchdown against FSU and then a touchdown that Heintschel threw back in high school that was an identical play to what he made on Saturday.

Pretty incredible stuff.
