After a rather calm first two weeks to the season, cornerback Brice Pollock is ready for the Beavers to present a tougher test.

Texas Tech’s secondary has yet to be tested– cornerback Brice Pollock is ready for Oregon State’s challenge. Led by former Duke and Texas quarterback Maalik Murphy, the Beavers will by far present the best offense the Red Raiders have seen. Murphy will be a huge part of that.

“I’ve seen a lot more composure compared to the previous quarterbacks,” Pollock told the media Tuesday. “A lot more pocket presence. He’s (Murphy) big and fast, but he’s really a pocket passer. We noticed that, we’re just ready for him to take shots, and he takes a lot of shots. Especially to number seven. We’re just going to be keyed in on that and just follow our rules, really.”

Pollock is ready for “Number Seven”

He may not be familiar with his name yet, but Pollock made sure to mention Oregon State’s WR Trent Walker twice when he spoke to the media. Walker is a redshirt-senior from Portland– he’s been around OSU his entire career. The wideout caught 81 passes for 901 yards a season ago and he’s on pace to do better than that his final go-round.

While some would get outside the box to prepare for this step up in competition, nothing is changing for Pollock.

“They got a good one, number seven,” Pollock said, mentioning Walker. “He’s pretty good. Their quarterback is very experienced so that helps them a lot. We know this team is a lot better than the last few teams. We’re gonna prepare the same way, but they are better.”

A comfortable start to the season

It will change rather quickly, but Pollock even acknowledged the lack of a true test for the secondary to this point. It’s not their fault. The defensive line has made the secondary’s job a whole lot easier. Regardless of whoever is lined up opposite of him, Pollock is ready for whatever offenses have to throw out there.

“I’ve felt good, I’ve felt really comfortable,” Pollock remarked. “I have a good front seven in front of me so I’m not having to go into the box to tackle or anything like that. I’ve just been feeling really good, really comfortable with the defense.”
