Rutgers Baseball’s junior outfielder Trevor Cohen has been selected by the San Francisco Giants with the 85th overall pick of the 2025 MLB Draft, thus becoming the first Scarlet Knight selected in this draft.

With the Cohen selection, this marks the third year in a row that a former Rutgers Baseball player has been selected in one of the first three rounds of the draft, joining 2023 second round pick Ryan Lasko and 2024 third round pick Joshua Kuroda-Grauer.

Coming out of Holy Spirit High School, Cohen was one of the top prospects in the Scarlet Knights 2023 recruiting class, as he was ranked the No. 15 overall prospect in New Jersey and No. 1 outfielder in the state per Prep Baseball Report. During his senior year, he hit .505 and a school record nine home runs in 2022.

During his freshman season, Cohen earned a starting role for the Scarlet Knights immediately, where he went on to slash .298/.353/.383 with 65 hits, seven doubles, one home runs, 34 RBIs, and a .736 OPS. He was named to the 2025 Big Ten All-Freshman Team.

In his sophomore season, Cohen once again was a starting outfielder and continued to produce at the plate. He slashed .324/.400/.406 with 65 hits, eight doubles, one home runs, 30 RBIs, 10 stolen bases, 24 walks, and a .806 OPS. He was also invited to the USA Baseball Collegiate National Team Training Camp.

In his final season as a junior, he had a monster season and was one of the best hitters in not just the Big Ten Conference, but all of college baseball. Cohen slashed .387/.460/.523 with 91 hits, 24 doubles, two home runs, 36 RBIs, 20 stolen bases, and a .983 OPS. During this season, Cohen broke the single-season record for conference hits in a season with 56 total and tied the Rutgers record for single-season doubles with 24 total. Along with all that, Cohen earned 2025 All-Big Ten Second Team honors and an invite to the 2025 MLB Draft Combine.

Cohen is the first former Scarlet Knight to be selected by the San Francisco Giants in the MLB Draft since Bill Malloy was picked in the sixth round of the 1996 draft.

The slot value for the 85th pick is $935,300.
