Memphis lost to Ole Miss 82-77 in Oxford. Here are a few quick takeaways from the Tigers’ first loss of the season.

Three-Point Shooting

This is going to be a story all season. The Tigers shot well from three against San Francisco (37 percent), but in this one the Rebels had the clear advantage. Ole Miss was red-hot from three, shooting 62 percent. The Tigers shot 33 percent from long range.

Curtis Givens III and Ashton Hardaway

Curtis Givens III and Ashton Hardaway each had their best games as Tigers. Givens led Memphis with 20 points shooting 7-14 from the field. Hardaway added 16 on 7-11 shooting. Finding reliable scoring is going to be valuable for the Tigers as the season goes on.

Turnovers

Turnovers are an evergreen story of Penny Hardaway’s teams at Memphis. Tonight, the Tigers only turned it over seven times, but they failed to create takeaways on the defensive end consistently. The Rebels only committed seven turnovers of their own.

Ilias Kamardine

Ole Miss guard Ilias Kamardine was the best player on the floor. The senior from France finished with 26 points shooting a staggering 11-14 from the floor. Tonight continued a hot start for Kamardine. He has scored in double digits in all three of his games so far.
