Myles Montgomery opens up about podcasting, pet life and UCF's young running back talent

UCF running back Myles Montgomery is entering his second season with the Knights and his fifth overall in college football. And while he’s a seasoned veteran on the field, it’s what he’s doing off the field that’s offered a new perspective.
During a Friday media session following UCF’s fourth preseason camp practice, Montgomery reflected on his recent role as co-host of the “UCFast Cast” podcast.
“I didn’t know I was going to like talking in front of people that much,” Montgomery said. “It’s helped me come out of my shell, I guess you could say. I’m pretty much an introvert. I don’t really go out much. I play the game, hang out with my dog. So it’s kind of helped me. I even see people around here. I’m walking around. Now, I’m asking them how their day is.”
Montgomery, who transferred to UCF from Cincinnati ahead of the 2024 season, says the podcast has improved his communication skills and allowed him to better connect with teammates and those around the program.
He also spoke about his favorite downtime activity, which is hanging out with his dog, Bear.
“He’s an all black, white tummy bernedoodle,” Montgomery said. “Me and Bear hang out. I’ve had him for a while now… Sometimes I take him to get a little pup cup here and there. Doodles have a sensitive stomach, so you’ve got to be kind of careful with that or you’ll take a nap and wake up to an explosion.”
On the field, Montgomery says UCF’s running backs are ahead of schedule, praising teammate and podcast co-host Jaden Nixon. He said Nixon is like a “Swiss Army knife” that can do it all.
The duo have a common bond with a shared running backs coach – Darren Paige. He coached Montgomery at Cincinnati and last season coached Nixon at Western Michigan.
“We kind of instantly hit it off after that,” Montgomery said. “Coach Paige is a trip, man. As soon as he got here, we called Coach Paige on FaceTime.”
He also raved about the progress of the younger running backs, including Stacy Gage and Taevion Swint.
“They’re doing really good. Really good.”
