UCF offensive line coach Shawn Clark is currently recovering and in stable condition following a medical emergency, the school announced on Wednesday.

“Last night, UCF offensive line coach Shawn Clark experienced a medical emergency,” UCF said in a statement. “He is currently in stable condition and receiving appropriate care. Coach Frost and our football and administration staffs are fully supporting Coach Clark and his loved ones during this time and our thoughts and prayers are with Shawn and his family. Updates will be shared as appropriate.”

Clark, 50, is in his first season on head coach Scott Frost’s staff after previously serving as the head coach at Appalachian State from 2020 through 2024.

Frost has spoken highly of Clark’s leadership and experience.

“Coach Clark’s doing a great job,” Frost said during spring practice. “And I’m really glad to have him. He gives me not just a lead position coach, but he’s somebody that sat in the head coach’s seat, so I can have those conversations with him. I’m really glad to have him around.”

Clark quickly made an impression on his players during spring and preseason camp.

“I’ve had previous coaches that are great people persons, but Coach Clark brings the room together,” said right tackle Preston Cushman. “He’s been a head coach, and he just gets us all in the right mindset with a common direction and common goal every single day, and that’s just kicking butt. You want to work for a guy like that. You want to give it all for him.”

Right guard Keegan Smith echoed those sentiments.

“I’m beyond blessed to have him. He’s a phenomenal coach,” Smith said. “He’s a dad, he gives life advice… It’s really cool because he was a head coach for a while, and now he’s coming back as a position coach. It’s really awesome. He knows his stuff. I’m really appreciative of him.”

UCF is currently in the midst of its first bye week of the season and does not play again until Sept. 20 when the Knights host North Carolina.
