Colorado State expected to hire UConn Football HC Jim Mora
According to a report by Pete Thamel, UConn Football Head Coach Jim Mora will be the next head coach at Colorado State.
This move comes just a couple of days after the Huskies ended their 2025 regular season, a very productive one at that as they finished 9-3 on the year and it was the second season in a row with nine wins. On top of that, the Huskies are expected to get a bowl game invite and it would their third under Mora in his four seasons in charge of the program.

As for the move out West, that shouldn’t be too shocking as On3’s Pete Nakos mentioned Mora as a candidate for the Colorado State job earlier this week.
On top of that Mora has a ton of ties to the West Coast, spending several years in the NFL as an assistant in the NFL with the San Diego Chargers, San Francisco 49ers, and Seattle Seahawks. He also has ties to the Pac-12 Conference, where Colorado State is slated to join on July 1st, 2026, as he was previously the Head Coach of UCLA.
During Mora’s time in charge of the Bruins, he finished with a record of 46-30 and won the Pac-12 West Division in 2012. He also led them to four bowl games in hi six years as head coach, where he was 2-2 in the postseason with wins in the Sun Bowl and Alamo Bowl.
Following the 2017 season, Mora tool some time off from the game of football before returning late in 2021 to take over as the new UConn Football Head Coach.
In year one with the Huskies, his program showed a lot of promise as he got them to their first bowl game (Myrtle Beach Bowl) since the 2015 St. Petersburg Bowl, unfortunately for UConn they ended up losing both of those bowls to Marshall.
A year later in 2023, the Huskies had a bit of a down year finishing 3-9, but bounced back in 2024 to finish with nine wins on the year including a big 27-14 win over North Carolina the Fenway Bowl.
Moving on to this 2025 season, UConn came very close to having a special year as they brought back a lot of their talent and coaches. The Huskies finished with nine wins and were close to having a few more, with all three of their losses (Delaware, Syracuse, Rice) coming in overtime.
With all that being said, UConn Athletic David Benedict is expected to begin his search for a new football coach immediately. This will Benedict’s third hire, as his previous two were Randy Edsall and of course Jim Mora. Those two, including interim HC Lou Spanos for seven games, have gone a combined 25-58.
