The No. 1 UConn women’s basketball team (4-0) will kick off the Basketball Hall of Fame Women’s Showcase with a top 10 clash against the No. 6 Michigan Wolverines on Friday.

WHO: Michigan Wolverines vs. UConn Huskies
WHEN: Friday, Nov. 21, 8 p.m.
WHERE:
Mohegan Sun Arena OR Fox

While this is the first time the two programs will meet, it isn’t their first time competing at the prestigious event. The last time the Wolverines participated in the contest was in 2021, when they defeated the No. 5-ranked Baylor Bears 74-68. Compared to the Huskies, the squad took down the Iowa State Cyclones 101-68 last year.

Fast forward to the 2025-2026 campaign, neither team looks the same, as most of the players exhausted their collegiate eligibility.

Scouting the Wolverines:

On Nov. 15, Michigan blew out No. 18 Notre Dame 93-54, which solidified their status as a top program in the country.

“Based on the little bit I’ve seen from Michigan, they will be for sure the best team we’ve played this year,” said Head Coach Geno Auriemma. “I was shocked by the score against Notre Dame.”

By the end of the battle, four Wolverines landed with double-digit points, with Olivia Olson paving the way.

The guard contributed 20 points, six rebounds, three assists and two steals. The guard knocked down seven of 11 (63.6%) field goals but struggled from deep, banking just one of six (16.7%) shot attempts.

Behind Olson, Mila Holloway accumulated 12 points, seven boards, five assists and two takeaways. The guard buried three of six (50%) two-pointers and cashed in one of two (50%) shots from downtown.

With that being said, if Connecticut can control the production of the sophomore duo, then the Huskies should come out on top.

When it comes to free-throw shooting, the squad knows how to draw fouls. While facing the Fighting Irish, the program collectively drained 19 of 26 (73.1%) free throws.

Scouting the Huskies:

As the start of the 2025-2026 stretch progresses, new faces are beginning to get the hang of things, making UConn a dominating force once again.

Sarah Strong, who tops the Huskies in all categories, is unstoppable. Currently, the forward averages 20.5 points, nearly nine rebounds, five assists, slightly over three steals and 2.5 blocks per meeting. Versus the Ohio State Buckeyes, the sophomore tied her career-high of 29 points, converting 10 of 13 (76.9%) shots from within the paint and splashing two of four (50%) three-pointers.

As for off-the-bench performers, watching out for Blanca Quiñonez is a must. On Sunday, the freshman broke out while facing the Buckeyes and could do the same tonight. Within 23 minutes, Quiñonez nailed five of eight (62.5%) shots from the field and sniped two of three (66.7%) tries from beyond the arc.

During the game tonight, the difference maker could come from turnovers, as the Huskies always exploit free points. In total, UConn forced 24 botched plays on Ohio State, resulting in 37 points, whereas Michigan could only notch 18 points off Notre Dame’s 18 turnovers.

Fans can stream the matchup on Fox, with tipoff scheduled for 8 p.m.
