UConn Football Secures Important win over Boston College

The UConn Huskies’ football team is now officially 5-2 after entering Chesnut Hill as a favorite over Boston College.
The Eagles and the Huskies are two teams in completely different spots. Boston College is fighting to become relevant in the ACC despite losing vital pieces of the previous roster. The Huskies, however, have continued to build on a 9-4 season a year ago that might define the new identity of UConn football.
UConn Secures First Road Power Conference Win Since 2012
With the win over Boston College, the Huskies will not only celebrate the 5-2 record but also an unfortunate streak that has now been snapped. UConn last defeated a power conference opponent on the road in 2012 (Maryland). The Huskies had been 0-15 since doing so.
The Eagles are certainly not having a great season up to this point. However, Boston College is one of two notable contests the team needed to win to prove themselves. The Huskies will face Duke on November 8th at home which is the hardest game on the schedule.
UConn did not just beat the Eagles either. The Huskies have now gone 12 straight games with 20 or more points. Boston College allowed the most passing yards in a game (362) against the Huskies’ offense this season despite playing opponents like Clemson, California, and Pittsburgh.
The win would not have been possible without the stellar second-half performance of the Huskies’ defense. UConn forced three punts and a turnover on downs in the second-half. The Huskies also recorded seven sacks which is the most in a game since 2011.
Linebacker Bryun Parham flew across the field for 14 tackles and two sacks as his performance led the defense. Amir Renwick had another stellar performance with five tackles and 1.5 sacks after a 10 tackle, one sack performance against FIU last week.
Huskies’ Offense Continues Hot Streak Behind Joe Fagnano
Quarterback Joe Fagnano was as close to perfect for the Huskies’ offense as he could get against the Eagles’ defense. Fagnano recorded 362 passing yards, five total touchdowns (four passing, one rushing), and 23 completions for an average of 11.7 yards per completion. The quarterback added 25 yards on the ground as the Huskies uncharacteristically struggled to run the football.
Fagnano was excellent for the Huskies and as was his sidekick at wide receiver, Skyler Bell. The receiver was crafty against the Eagles’ defense, with a variety of different looks and concepts designed to create a play for the star. Bell finished the game with 10 receptions, 125 yards receiving, and one touchdown.
UConn attempted to get Bell active on the ground as well, but the play was stuffed for a two-yard loss and shelved afterwards.
The Huskies were able to consistently move the football down the field through the air with countless big plays across the middle of the field. Fagnano had a few risky plays during the game, but notably did not throw an interception which extends his streak.
For the UConn Huskies’ football team, a trip to Rice is next on the schedule as the 3-4 Owls will host UConn. Rice is currently on a three-game losing streak with losses to Navy, FAU, and UTSA.
