UConn football fans have received a bit of good news after another transfer portal entry was announced. Starting running back Cam Edwards will enter the transfer portal. However, the running back will also play in the Wasabi Fenway Bowl which is a big boost for the offense.

Previously, Coach Jim Mora had been directing the team on a path to the first double-digit win season the program has seen as an FBS team. Mora departed after being offered the Colorado State job, which is notably closer to his home state of California. Since accepting the job, the Huskies have lost numerous 2026 recruits to flips and a handful of current players to the transfer portal.

Edwards is the latest entrant into the portal for UConn and arguably the most accomplished. In his time with the program, the Norwalk native has recorded 2,582 yards and 26 touchdowns. Edwards is currently the sixth all-time rusher in program history for both carries and yards. The running back has the fourth-most touchdowns at the position in program history.

Barring any major changes moving forward, Edwards is not necessarily done with UConn. The running back announced alongside his intentions to transfer that he would also be a bowl participant.

UConn has only surpassed nine wins once in program history in 1998 with ten wins and a trip to the Division I-AA Playoffs. The Huskies have not been able to do so since then, but have recorded seven seasons with eight or more wins.

For some fans, the clash against the Army Black Knights might not be the ideal bowl game. However there is still plenty left for the Huskies to do with history on the line.

Edwards could potentially be a key player for the Huskies during the upcoming game against the Black Knights. The Army defense is allowing 147.1 yards per game on the ground which is the sixth-best in the American Conference.

Following the bowl game the future is currently unknown for Edwards as many options will be opened. TCU, who just hired offensive coordinator Gordon Sammis, would be a logical destination for the running back. Edwards should also have a large amount of power conference suitors which could make a potential return to UConn difficult.
