UConn Football picks up third-straight win against FIU

Following a very exciting game for Huskies’ fans, the UConn football team picked up a third-straight win after defeating the FIU Panthers.
FIU traveled up to Connecticut with every intention of putting together a physical, aggressive display of football. However after pregame scuffles broke out, the Panthers failed to back-up the intensity that was present upon landing in Connecticut. As Logan Ryan stated during the win, “Everyone on UConn today is eating.”
Seemingly every member of the Huskies contributed to the 51-10 win but a few key players certainly stood out during the big win. The success of UConn started with quarterback Joe Fagnano, who came into the game with impressive statistics and left with a career-high performance.
Fagnano recorded 355 passing yards, four touchdowns, and an average of 12.7 yards per completion. The quarterback broke a previous career-high for passing yards while only needing to play three-quarters of the game in order to do so. Fagnano also recorded just six incomplete passes against FIU as the quarterback picked apart the secondary of the Panthers throughout the game.
Fagnano did not do everything alone against the Panthers either as wide receiver Skyler Bell was unstoppable when targeted. Bell recorded six receptions for 63 yards and two touchdowns as the UConn football staff showcased a play designed for the receiver, leading to his first touchdown reception of the game. Victor Rosa and Reymello Murphy added 60-yard plus receiving touchdowns that truly blew the game open.
UConn Football Puts Together Dominant Offensive Performance Against FIU
While plenty went right for the Huskies’ defense and credit is deserved, the efficiency and effectiveness of the offense is what truly propelled UConn towards a victory. UConn has been one of the most efficient teams offensively this season after entering the contest with zero turnovers and an average of 34.2 points per game.
During the win over the Panthers, the offense recorded five scoring drives where the ball was moved over 60 yards down the field. UConn had multiple scores converted due to having a great starting field position, but when needed the Huskies’ offense had no issues putting together a drive.
For reference, against Buffalo last week during the 20-17 win, the Huskies’ offense had just two drives beyond 60 total yards and scored during both. UConn set the tempo against FIU early with an 11 play, 69-yard touchdown drive to start the game that took the wind out of the sails of the defense. When UConn plays well on offense, the other phases of play tend to come easier to the team.
The Huskies put together 527 total yards of offense and six touchdowns against the Panthers as the bye week looms.
UConn will face Boston College on October 18th as a demoralized Eagles’ squad will play against Clemson before the clash. The Eagles are currently 1-4 and have given up 40 or more points twice already this season to Michigan State and Pittsburgh. UConn is trending upwards rapidly as the Eagles continue to fall, which should make for an interesting game between the two sides.
