Despite a tough four-quarters of play, the UConn football team has improved to 8-3 with a win over the Air Force Falcons. The Huskies additionally extended a home winning streak to six games this season and eight games dating back to 2024.

The Huskies continue to pack on wins this season just a handful of years removed from what was seemingly rock bottom in Connecticut. Last week, UConn held the Duke Blue Devils down just enough to secure the 37-34 win.

The Falcons proved to be a much tougher team than many had thought, keeping themselves in the game down the wire.

Air Force Pressure QB Joe Fagnano as Huskies’ Offense Relies Upon Cam Edwards

Most of the season star quarterback Joe Fagnano had been the man that the team would lean upon every game. Wide Receiver Skyler Bell has notably been a weapon in the open field this season, but the play of Fagnano has been what is propelling the Huskies towards something special.

Fagnano notably recorded his first interception of the season after successfully navigating his way through ten games this season without doing so. The quarterback recorded 155 yards after completing 15 of his 13 pass attempts against the Falcons’ defense. Fagnano might not have had the best game, but the quarterback stayed patient and did not force any big plays.

Without Fagnano performing his best, the Huskies relied upon powerful running back Cam Edwards to do the damage needed on offense. Edwards finished the game with 165 yards and two touchdowns on the ground after carrying the football 24 times.

Previously, the success of Fagnano and the passing offense forced UConn to move away from the running game. Coach Jim Mora noted that Edwards has been great this season, but the success of the team through the air has been hard to deny. Edwards made the most of his carries against the Falcons’ defense and proved once against why he is a pivotal part of the team.

UConn Huskies’ Defense Held Strong When the Team Needed Stops the Most

As mentioned, heading into the game the Falcons were not necessarily considered to be a tough match-up. UConn was fresh off of a massive win over Duke and the team fully clicked on offense in the game.

However, the Falcons were resilient and the offense managed to record 23 first-downs against UConn. The Huskies only had 19 first-downs. UConn was also out-gained 357 to 347 in total yardage during the game.

When the defense needed to step-up the team certainly managed to provide on the field. The Falcons went just 4-for-10 on third-down and 0-for-2 on fourth-down. UConn was not able to secure a turnover or a sack, but made notable stops when the team needed to the most.

The Huskies will finish off the season in Boca Raton, Florida against the FAU Owls on November 22nd. The Owls are 4-5 this season with a 27-21 win over Rice earlier in the year. FAU also lost 38-28 against FIU, who lost 51-10 in Connecticut.
