UConn Football OC expected to join TCU coaching staff
UConn Football offensive coordinator Gordon Sammis is expected to join TCU’s coaching staff for the same position, according to a report from Pete Thamel.
Sammis was the Huskies offensive coordinator for two years and was the offensive line coach for the Huskies the two years prior to that. In his first season as OC, the UConn offense made some serious strides going from the 121st ranked offense (19.1ppg) to the 35th ranked offense (31.9ppg). The year after that aka this past season, the Huskies took another leap in offensive play as they finished with the 12th ranked offense in the nation and averaged 36.9 points per game.

The 2025 offense also boasted the program the first ever season for the Huskies with a 3000-yard passer in Joe Fagnano, 1000-yard rusher in Cam Edwards, and 1000-yard receiver in Skyler Bell. Fagnano was named a semifinalist for the Davey O’Brien Award, Edwards was the first 1,000+ yard rusher in program history since 2019, and Bell is a finalist for the Biletnikoff award. Combine it all together and you get arguably the best offense in program history.
On top of that, UConn was able to put together the program’s first ever back to back nine win seasons and Sammis himself earned back to back Broyles Award nominations, which is the award annually given to the nation’s top assistant coach.
Overall, Sammis was one heck of an offensive mind coach for the Huskies and will be missed by man, but with a new Head Coach in Jason Candle taking over, he will likely bring in his own staff to run the UConn offense.
Sammis will now be in charge of replacing Kendal Briles, who spent three season as the offensive coordinator of the Horned Frogs. In that time, Briles led an offense that averaged over 30 points per game in each of his three seasons and led them to back to back bowl games over the past two seasons.
As for UConn, there is a national search ongoing to fill out the Huskies coaching staff as Jason Candle will likely have to build an entirely new staff with only a few weeks remaining until the Transfer Portal opens.
